How to get to the conference site from the Oulu train station?
Be sure to print this map with you (click on it to view it in full size). If you arrive on Thursday 20th March, you can use both the bus stops 2. and 3. Bus 12 and 13 go from the bus stop 2 (between 12.00 and 17.00 the bus 13 uses only the bus stop 3.) Bus 7 and 17 go from the bus stop 3. All of these busses drive at least twice in an hour to Kaakkuri. If you arrive on Friday 21th March your only options are busses number 12 and 17. They go only once per hour. On both days, Thursday and Friday, it will be harder to get a bus after 21.00, so try to be in Oulu some time earlier.
The bus ticket costs 2,80 euros. Please note that if you travel after 23.00 the bus ticket will cost the double (5,60 euros). Bus ride from the centrum to Kaakkuri should take about 25 minutes.
How to get to the conference site from the Oulu airport
Please download the map on the right. Go to the bus stop at the airport and take the bus number 19. Stop at the designated bus stop 2 (the drivers are usually helpful in showing the rigth stop). A walk from the bus stop to the school is 1,8 km long, so, you'd better have those walking shoes on. The bus ticket costs 2,80 euros and after 23.00 it costs twice as much (5,60 euros). You could also take a taxi from the airport, and if you have 3 other passengers with you, the ride won't be that expensive. Yet another option is to take the bus from the airport to Oulu centre and follow the directions above to find your way from the city centre to the conference site.
For bus schedules you can go to: http://www.linjakas.fi/oulu/en/. There fill in as follows:
FROM: Lentoasema (=airport)
TO: Kaakkurin koulu
This will give you results where you will have to walk around 1.8 km (see map above). If you don't want to walk, you can change buses in the town center and then you have to make two searches:
FROM: Lentoasema
TO: Toripakka (=the bus-stop at the center)
and
FROM: Toripakka
TO: Kaakkurin koulu
This option should show you results where you have to walk 0 km.
This is fairly easy, especially because once you get the results, on the right edge of the page there is a link that allows you to see the whole route on a map. Then you can print it out.
Also, the buses in Oulu usually have SCREENS that show which busstop will be the next one, so make sure you write down the names of the busstops (you can get them from the map, hover your mouse over the blue dots and the name of the blue dot (a busstop) appears).
